2010 Destination → Independence 5K Walk a Great Success!!

Saturday, May 22nd, was a beautiful day for a walk, and the participants in the 6th Annual Destination → Independence 5K Walk to support the Blind Children’s Learning Center. Everyone, specially the kids had a wonderful time. “It was a great day to be out in the community,” said Jenny Sharp, who teaches one of the PreK classes at the Center. “All the kids enjoyed it, and their families did too.”

Over 450 people walked, jogged or enjoyed a stroller ride through lovely neighborhoods in North Tustin. “One of the best things that I saw,” commented Kim Neuhauser, “was one of our blind students, on rollerblades with her white safety cane! It reminded me that our kids can do ANYTHING!

A BBQ and carnival followed the Walk, with games, rides and prizes for all the kids. “This was a great party,” said Kris Gabora, a volunteer and walker. “My daughters loved being here. We can’t wait until next year’s walk.”

The Presenting Sponsor, Alcoa Fasteners, brought a large team of walkers and President Bill Hart presented the Center with a check for $5,000.00. “We are so grateful to all of our sponsors. Support from the community makes all the difference for our kids,” said Jaimie Haver, Chair for this year’s Destination → Independence 5K Walk. Other sponsors for the 2010 Destination → Independence 5K Walk included UCI Medical Center, Cormier Chevrolet, Tustin Community Bank, Disney VoluntEARS and the Southern California College of Optometry. We were pleased to welcome three new sponsors this year: Orange County Retina, Westover Capital and Cambridge Financial Partners.

Thank you all.
