Programs & Services:
Orientation & Mobility
Our
Orientation and Mobility Specialists instruct blind and visually impaired
students in safe and efficient independent travel skills as well as various
daily living skills. They work closely with classroom teachers and instructional
aids by providing information on safety issues within the school grounds,
including the classroom and playground.
Older children are introduced to recreational activities such as softball
and social activities while maintaining their safety, learning what to
listen to while using a cane. The specialists may also work with students
out in the community on how to access public transportation, grocery shopping
and running daily errands, managing a household and holding down a job.
